What is Diminished Value?

Diminished Value is the difference between the value of a vehicle before an accident ("pre-loss") and its new value after repairs are made when you are not at-fault.

What Can This Look Like?

Diminished Value is determined by multiple factors, but the most important are ones like vehicle condition and labor costs of repair. Let's look at an example:

Owner currently drives Vehicle, a two-year-old model valued at $34,500, but was unfortunately on the receiving end of a collision a year prior. At the time of the accident, Owner went through the standard procedure: exchange insurance information, get the car repaired, then continue with life. And even though the car was repaired beautifully, its new value now dropped to $28,000. That's a $6,500 difference all caused from the accident! 

Now if Owner wants to sell Vehicle, unfortunately the selling price couldn't go higher than $28,000 despite getting repaired and looking almost the same as it did pre-loss.

That $6,500 difference was Vehicle's Diminished Value. Fortunately, it is possible to get this money back if Owner files a Diminished Value claim with Vehicle Value Recovery (VVR)!

What Qualifies Your Claim?

• You were in a vehicle accident within the past 3 years.*
• You were not the at-fault party in the accident.
• Your vehicle is less than 5 years old.**
• Your vehicle has less than 75,000 miles.

*Even though there is a longer time limit on filing a claim, it is highly recommended to file as soon as possible. We will check your state's rules.

**However, some vehicles might have Diminished Value even if older than 5 years. Each potential claim needs to be evaluated.
